John Hostettler's Official Announcement

John Hostettler declares candidacy for Senate

RELEASED
Date: Monday, December 7, 2009

In case you haven't heard the recent news, the purpose of our campaign has been accomplished. John Hostettler has announced his intention to run for Senate against Evan Bayh in 2010! Please watch his announcement here: http://www.youtube.com/johnhostettler And then go sign the petition here: http://johnhostettler.com/blog/

Needless to say, this is GREAT news! However, this is only the beginning of the larger effort of getting Congressman Hostettler elected to the Senate. And let's not underestimate how great a task that will be. He will need petitions with the signatures of at least 500 registered voters from each of Indiana's 9 congressional districts submitted by February just to have his name appear on the May Republican primary ballot. Then he will need to defeat the other Republican candidates in that primary, several of whom have already been in full campaign mode for some time now. After that will come the hardest challenge, winning a statewide general election against Evan Bayh, who already has enormous name recognition, a gargantuan amount of campaign funds, a peerless statewide network of supporters, a reputation (undeserved though it may be) of being a "conservative" blue-dog Democrat, and the confidence of knowing that the leadership of his national party will stop at nothing to make sure he beats Hostettler.

This will require all of us to do everything we can to help Hostettler at each stage of this challenge. He will need us to donate our money, our time, and our energy. So we urge you all to commit to those things. As far as our website is concerned, although we as independent grassroots activists will still continue to spread the word about Hostettler and do what we can to network and help one another do that, we will no longer attempt to serve as any kind of a central hub to coordinate the support of the Hostettler for Senate campaign, as we expect that his official campaign committee will take care of that. Please make a point to stay abreast of his campaign and how you can help.

As we stated when you signed our petition, we will pass along whatever contact information you provided us to that campaign (after which time you have our assurance that we will no longer keep your information or use it for any purpose). But, just to make sure they are able to contact you by whatever means they may need to, we urge you also to sign their petition at: http://johnhostettler.com/blog/

If you are on Facebook, you might also consider adding yourself as a fan on his official Facebook supporter page: http://www.facebook.com//johnhostettler

In addition we still have our unofficial grassroots John Hostettler for Senate Facebook group: http://www.facebook.com/group.php?gid=55158541316

Please use those websites as your means of keeping up with the campaign so that you will know when they set up a more complete campaign website suitable for taking donations, and so that you can learn of events they schedule and their needs for volunteers.

Most of all, our sincerest thanks to all of you for signing our petition. We don't know how much of a difference it made in Congressman Hostettler's decision to run. But whatever effect it had, it was worth it. You can know that you did something to advance the cause of freedom and constitutional government in these United States.

For Liberty,

Eric Rowe, Jerry Titus, and Lynette Sherrill
